Kevin Garnett Interrupts Live Pregame Broadcast

The Boston Celtics' Kevin Garnett interrupted a live broadcast before Tuesday night's game against the Miami Heat, creeping menacingly behind a pair of reporters.

The gregarious seven-foot forward did not play in the game, during which both teams largely sat their stars in preparation for the upcoming NBA playoffs.

That probably explains the comedic moment from the future Hall of Famer, who's normally in such an intense zone before games that it borders on scary.

This was still a little scary, but you get the point. Watch KG insert himself into the pregame chatter and see the reaction be receives from the announcers ...

Hacker Jailed For Stealing Facebook?s Source Code Tells All, Claims Innocence

White Hat Vs Black Hat DoneHe stole Facebook's source code, but never copied, published, or sold it. Then he was arrested and imprisoned. Now released after four months in jail, Glenn Steven Mangham claims he's an innocent white hat hacker who was trying to help Facebook patch security vulnerabilities in a video and blog post published this week. However, Facebook responded to my request for a statement about the 26-year old's claims with "Mr.Mangham's excuses have already been evaluated and rejected by a court of law, resulting in his conviction and jail time." Mangham says he planned to inform Facebook of the vulnerabilities, and could have entered Facebook's White Hat program that offers security researchers protection against legal repercussions. However,?Mangham was arrest after?possessing the source code for three weeks without informing Facebook. ?Is he telling the truth, or lying through his teeth?

William Levy: Cheating on Elizabeth Gutierrez With Grace Roubidoux?

Is Dancing With the Stars heart throb William Levy having an affair with waitress Grace Roubidoux, leaving girlfriend Elizabeth Gutierrez out in the cold?

Probably not, but the tabloids have apparently moved on from Jaleel White.

Levy’s girlfriend Gutierrez, with whom he has a child, is reportedly giving her ex another chance after cheating on her "at least 40 times," In Touch reports.

That same celebrity gossip magazine reports that he not-so-shockingly returned to his philandering ways recently with hostess/aspiring actress Roubidoux.

The 25-year-old denies any wrongdoing. Alleged sources aren't so sure.

“Grace and William hooked up last week,” a friend of the Kate Mantilini greeter, who often goes by the stage name Carolyn Hayver, tells the publication.

“He told her to keep quiet about it; he didn’t want Elizabeth to find out.”

Levon Helm and The Band: a rock parable of fame, betrayal, and redemption

Levon Helm of The Band found an unlikely path back to fame after decades of disappointment. But by the end, the homespun singer from Turkey Scratch, Ark., had come full circle.

In the eight years preceding his death Thursday, Levon Helm enjoyed the highest distinction that any music veteran could hope for: an audience that remembers.

Two recent Grammy awards had brought a resurgence of interest in Mr. Helm?s career as the voice and drummer of The Band, one of rock?s most enduring groups. But it was only in 2004, when he began his homespun ?Midnight Ramble? concerts, that he began to reemerge into the public eye following years of health and financial problems, as well as lingering disappointment and resentment surrounding the dissolution of his former band.

Indeed, much of Helm?s story is a parable of rock ?n? roll ? the story of a band fractured by money and fame, leaving its disillusioned members to pick of the pieces of lives that had seemed to promise something more.

In that way, Helm?s musical legacy is not one meticulously groomed by publicists or biographers. It has evolved organically through what he has left behind.

His appeal in The Band and to Bob Dylan, who collaborated with the group during his most fruitful years, has not just been his voice but also his insurgent spirit. After all, the late-1960s marked the transition from presenting pop music as audible candy for teens to a progressive art form. While the Beatles represented a breakthrough in pushing boundaries that were heady and abstract, The Band later represented their American counterpart, which was dangerous, unkempt, and with a profound feel for, and understanding of, blues, gospel, and country.

That understanding came largely from Helm?s biography. The only American in a group of Canadians, he grew up in Turkey Scratch, Ark., as the son of cotton farmers. Many of the references in classic Band songs came from the people he knew and the sounds he heard in his childhood. Blues great Sonny Boy Williamson performed regularly in the area, and traveling minstrel shows and rockabilly bands made frequent stops.

Helm ?couldn?t wait to get out of high school and get off the farm. His dad told him he couldn?t play with bands until he finished high school.? All he was doing was biding his time,? says Anna Lee Amsden, Helm?s lifelong friend and the ?Anna Lee? in the lyrics of ?The Weight,? the group?s classic song. ?Crazy Chester? and ?Carmen,? other familiar characters in the song, were also people Helm knew in town, Ms. Amsden says.

In a statement Friday, Mr. Dylan called Helm "one of the last true great spirits of my or any other generation."

Much of The Band?s identity ? as suggested by its name ? was in being a true collective where no single person stood out. The Band?s 1968 debut, ?Music From Big Pink,? reflected that unity. Despite vocals shared by Helm, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko, no one singer was identified, and the lyrics weren?t even printed on the jacket. The magic of that music came from a special alchemy among those individuals that could never be achieved separately since.

Yet in what is now a storied pattern from the early days of the music business, camaraderie crumbled amid fame. Robbie Robertson, The Band?s lead guitarist, joined with the band?s management to persuade the others to sign away their individual publishing rights, which in today?s era of multiplatform media are considered the pension plans of the music industry. They ensure artists later income when the songs receive renewed life in movies, television, and beyond.

In his autobiography ?This Wheel?s On Fire,? Helm describes seeing a copy of the 1969 album ?The Band? and noticing he was credited for writing only half of one song, with Mr. Robertson credited on all 12.

?Someone had pencil-whipped us. It was an old tactic: divide and conquer,? he writes.

Things got worse in 1978 when director Martin Scorsese, who collaborated with Robertson on the film ?The Last Waltz,? reinforced what Helm said was a false narrative that Robertson was somehow the band?s auteur.

Why does Norway's Breivik invoke the Knights Templar? (+video)

Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in a twin terror attack in Norway last July, claims to be a member of a reborn 'Knights Templar.' What's the symbolism?

One of the highlights of today's testimony in the trial of Anders Behring Breivik, who is accused of the murder of 77 people during a bombing and shooting rampage in Norway, was the prosecutor's efforts to challenge Mr. Breivik's purported membership in the "Knights Templar."

Skip to next paragraph A sociologist for the defense talks about Andrew Breivik's world view.

Breivik claims to have helped "refound" the ancient military order as a force to fight immigration and multiculturalism in Europe. But why turn to a long-gone Christian order to symbolize his agenda today?

The Knights Templar, or "Templars," were a Christian order founded in the 10th century. Named for the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the Templars initially protected pilgrims traveling through the Holy Lands, but eventually evolved into a powerful military force that waged war against the Muslims during the Crusades.

The Templars became so powerful, however, that European leaders grew to distrust the order. Early in the 1300s, King Philip IV of France launched a crackdown on the Templars that, with the help of Pope Clement V, eventually spread Europe-wide, destroying the order. Many members were tortured and tried for heresy by the Catholic Church.

But despite, or perhaps because of, their ancient history and sudden demise, the Templars still hold a solid grip on modern imaginations and pop culture. They are frequently depicted as the mysterious controllers of the world in books like Umberto Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum" and movies like "National Treasure." "The Da Vinci Code" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" set the Templars up as secret keepers of the Holy Grail. They even appear as the enemies in video games like "Assassin's Creed."

Certainly, the organization that Breivik claims to be a member of is equally mysterious. Breivik describes the organization as "a leaderless network, made to be self-driven cells.? He said that ?For militants, [Knights Templar] is meant to be a version of Al Qaeda." He has yet to name another member of the group, claiming that to do so would risk their being caught, though he has indicated that his "English mentor" can be found in London and that a Serb "war hero" living in Liberia is among the group's ranks.

Whether or not the Templars in which Breivik claims membership are real, the name is likely meant to evoke both the mysterious nature of the original Templars and their open war against Muslim forces during the Crusades. The historical Templars' modern reputation and supposed influence makes a strong symbolic counterpoint to terrorist groups like Al Qaeda.

Monitor guest blogger James Bosworth suggested that the use of the name may also be meant to legitimize the group as a moral one.

Last July, Mr. Bosworth noted that Breivik was not the first violent criminal to invoke the Templars: A Mexican criminal gang has also adopted the name and some of the associated symbolism. But Bosworth concludes that "The Mexican Knights Templar code of conduct appears to be a false appeal to Mexico's citizens," something that could also be argued of Breivik's use of the Templar mythology. "The Knights Templar label is a failed attempt to grant historical legitimacy to a violent act that truly has no justification," Bosworth wrote.

Tax day: How to remind Americans that paying taxes is a conservative value

To help create a political climate in which Americans can talk sensibly about taxes, let's start with kids: It?s time to make The Tax Talk with our kids just as much a part of our culture as The Sex Talk or The Drugs Talk.

As we left our local zoo three years ago, my son, then 8, asked what wealthy family had built all the exhibits, stocked them with elephants and monkeys and giraffes, then invited the public to come and enjoy them.

The family behind the zoo, I was happy to tell my boy, was actually our own. Acting alone, our household couldn?t have hoped to create such a wonder. But by chipping in a little money each year, and combining it with the money that thousands of other fellow residents contributed, we made the zoo possible.

As I mentioned to my son, the money that made our zoo was a special kind of payment called a tax. He was impressed that a community could be so clever, collecting a few dollars from so many purses and wallets to create something so wonderful.

?That?s a good tax,? he shouted, licking his ice cream cone in satisfaction.

I?m thinking about my son today as taxpayers across the country race to meet this year?s filing deadline for their federal income taxes. When?s the last time, after all, that you?ve heard anyone mention a good tax?

I can be as grumpy as the next guy when it?s time to file my federal and state income tax returns ? or when my local property tax bill arrives, somewhat cruelly, around Christmas each year.

But as I?ve often told both of my children, quoting from Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, taxes are the price we pay for civilized society. Ever since his epiphany at the gates of the zoo, I?ve tried to teach my son, now 11, and his 16-year-old sister about many other things our taxes pay for. The library where we get books for free isn?t really free at all; taxes keep the doors open. The streets we drive to school and the shopping mall didn?t sprout like toadstools in some fairy-tale past. Taxes built them, and taxes keep them repaired.

Taxes, I?ve told my kids, pay our soldiers and teachers and police officers, fund our local universities, and send our astronauts into space. Taxes help keep our food safe and our water clean. Taxes pay for the parks where we play, and the scientists who explore the heavens and the sea.

When a local tax election looms, we discuss it at the dinner table, parsing out what our family might stand to gain if it?s approved, and how much it will cost us. Sometimes, our children accompany us into the voting booth as we cast our ballots. I?ve shown our kids my tax bill, so that they?ll know there?s really no free lunch. When they spend their allowances on bubblegum, video games, or designer clothes, I remind my youngsters that they?ve become taxpayers, too, through the sales tax charges on their receipts.

What I?m attempting to do, I suppose, is help my son and daughter see taxes not as a textbook abstraction on a civics test, but as a practical reality of their daily lives ? and something worthy of serious thought, not silly sloganeering.

My children have grown up in a political climate in which millions of people seem to reflexively regard taxes as a social evil. Taxes have never been popular, nor will they ever be. But the rhetorical absolutism of the current campaign season has given too many of us, I?m afraid, the illusion that government either has no price tag ? or that its price can be paid by someone else.

I am, by habit and virtue of residence in a red state, fairly conservative. As a journalist the whole of my adult life, I?ve also been vigilant in sounding the alarm about government waste and inefficiency. But I also embrace the conservative principle that citizens should pay their bills, including the cost of what their government provides.

To help create a political climate in which Americans can talk sensibly about taxes, we have to start by talking sensibly about taxes with our children. Many of us have already acknowledged the wisdom of having The Sex Talk or The Drugs Talk or The Bullying Talk with our sons and daughters when the right time comes. Maybe it?s also time to make The Tax Talk with our kids a part of the popular culture.

Today, as millions of Americans file their taxes, seems as good a time as any.

Yep. That's assembly language, about as far from Ruby as you can get. It's from the original, Apple II version of Prince of Persia, one of the best games in anyone's childhood, anywhere. As we mentioned before, Jordan Mechner found the original disks in his father's place last month and was looking for someone to help pull the files off of the disks. Thanks to Jason Scott, Mechner held a copy party in his house to drag, kicking and screaming, into the light of day.

Brian Stann knocks out Alessio Sakara, then stops fight without help from referee (VIDEO)

UFC middleweight Brian Stann is a fighter, a Marine, and recently, a commentator for Fox. He's used to wearing many hats, so it's no surprise that during his UFC on Fuel 2 win over Alessio Sakara, he was both fighter and referee.

Stann knocked Sakara down with a bevy of knees in the first round. While in Sakara's guard, Stann knocked his opponent out with short elbows. When he saw Sakara was clearly out, he pulled back, waving to referee Marc Goddard that Sakara was knocked out.

Though MMA rules indicate Stann would not have been wrong to continue the bout until Goddard stepped in, he didn't want to inflict any more damage on Sakara.

Immediately after the bout, UFC president Dana White tweeted, "Brian Stann is one of the classiest people on Earth!" Light heavyweight champ Jon Jones, a training partner of Stann's, called the win "very classy" and "good for the sport."

Stann is already known as one of MMA's good guys. He started fighting after a decorated career with the Marines. He founded Hire Heroes, a not-for-profit whose aim is to help veterans transition to civilian jobs. Just before he was scheduled to leave his Atlanta home to train for the Sakara fight in New Mexico, his brother-in-law died. Instead of leaving his grieving wife, Stann trained at home and communicated with his coaches through videos.

As Ben Fowlkes from MMA Fighting wrote, he's such a good guy, you almost want to hate him. Except, he's also the kind of good guy who will stop a fight when he sees his opponent has been knocked out.

Developers ? Blog Archive ? FX Rogue Review

Day after day, hundreds of thousands of trades are created inside a currency exchange market place termed Currency trading. The term ?Forex? instantly stems forex trader from the start of two phrases ? ?foreign? and ?exchange?. Compared with other investing solutions like the stock market place, Currency trading is not going to entail the investing of any items, bodily or representative. Rather, Foreign exchange operates as a result of obtaining, advertising, and buying and selling involving the currencies of assorted economies from all over the world. For the reason that Foreign exchange marketplace is really a world wide investing program, trades are created twenty-four hours a day, 5 times weekly. Furthermore, Fx is just not bound by any one particular command company, which suggests that Foreign exchange may be the only accurate absolutely free market place financial buying and selling procedure out there currently. By leaving the exchange prices outside of any one particular group?s fingers, it truly is substantially extra hard to even try and manipulate or corner the currency market place. With all the positive aspects linked with all the Fx procedure, plus the world wide variety of participation, the Foreign exchange market place is definitely the greatest market place during the full environment.

Anyplace amongst one trillion and one.five trillion equivalent U.s. bucks are traded to the Foreign exchange marketplace every single and just about every day.

So somewhat than information you by way of a structured web-site with additional points as a result of many sections; they generally make use of this pitch webpage plus they usually pack it with data in addition to a ton of difficult offering. It has tested for being the craze and it is really gotten more challenging and more challenging for many EAs to current market their software program without the need of these kind of pitch pages. It is actually usually the situation with electronic products and solutions and or/stuff you may purchase on the internet. On the subject of these make-money-online and Fx web-sites they frequently use a large amount of flash to them and definitely quite a few issues to draw buyers in. In point of fact it truly is not substantially distinct from almost every other kind of marketing, most definitely not the likes of other financial systems, and so forth. They really need to have some kind of attractiveness and be aggressive. My summary is usually that regardless of whether it seems to be like it may be a rip-off, do your research anyways and it might not be. It just is dependent. Some points are symptoms, but in my view online style and tough advertising are usually not immediate symptoms of the fraud.

Although while in the Fx Market place a little something to hope for will be charts and evidence.

Most currency trading selections investing is done by means of phone as there are actually only several forex trading brokers supplying on the net currency trading alternative investing platforms.

Foreign exchange Possibility Defined ? A currency trading choice is often a economic currency agreement offering the foreign exchange solution customer the appropriate, although not the obligation, to invest in or offer a particular forex trading spot agreement (the fundamental) in a certain cost (the strike cost) on or prior to a certain date (the expiration date). The volume the foreign exchange choice purchaser pays to your forex trading choice seller for that fx possibility agreement legal rights is termed the forex trading choice ?premium.?

The Foreign exchange Alternative Purchaser ? The customer, or holder, of the foreign currency choice has the alternative to both offer the foreign currency choice agreement ahead of expiration, or she or he can elect to maintain the foreign currency solutions agreement right until expiration and exercising their correct to choose a place during the fundamental spot foreign currency. The act of training the foreign currency alternative and using the subsequent fundamental situation while in the foreign currency spot promote is called ?assignment? or staying ?assigned? a spot situation.

As I stated earlier mentioned, the foreign exchange investing is regarded as on the list of most prosperous and appealing chances for expense as any man or woman can quickly do at your house or office environment and from any element of the earth.

For succeeding the Foreign currency trading, anyone is simply not necessary to carry out any on the web marketing, promoting and so forth. The only real need while in the Fx trading could be the account that anyone is needed to open up with trusted and registered brokers, a pc procedure and quickly world wide web relationship.

Now, you may have for being very careful when opening a Currency trading account with any broker simply because some might be Rip-off. The Commodity Futures Buying and selling Commission (CFTC) in US has jurisdiction about all Futures and Forex trading action. When buying and selling from the foreign exchange markets, consumers really should only trade which has a CFTC registered entity which is also a member in the Country wide Futures Association (NFA) and is particularly controlled by CFTC. For non-US broker/ financial institution entities, make certain the broker or lender is registered with that country?s ideal regulatory bodies.

The solitary most apparent solution is not surprisingly ? over the internet! On the net fx trading provides you immediate entry to your foreign exchange current market and there is plenty and a lot of businesses to choose from that happen to be in small business simply to offer with you on-line. Be vigilant, do commit enough time to have some excellent foreign currency trading training, all over again this may be presented on the internet and put in place your dummy account to trade prior to you try to go dwell. When you consider treatment and get your time, there is certainly no purpose why you should not become successful in currency trading so, have persistence and adhere at it!

New Look Springpad, New Guide-Thank You Daniel Gold ? Web2 ...

springpad coverThere are some cloud based services that just don?t click when you first look at them.? You sit there, the eyes glaze over and you may even start trembling and dribbling as the waves of incomprehension wash over you. There?s no logical reason. Trillions of people are probably using that service without a care in the world but for you it?s like trying to solve a Sudoku puzzle blindfolded.

I find that this blindspot exists with me and Springpad and when rumours of a new update to the service started filtering through I got a sneak preview of the beta version and fortunately for me I was not left alone to fumble my way through it but was guided by another sneak preview, a new eBook from Daniel Gold who told me I was only the third person to see the book before publication.

Springpad ?For Cretins?

Daniel is currently best known for his eBook Evernote?: The unofficial guide to capturing everything and getting things done which looks at how you can implement David Allen?s GTD (Getting Things Done) philosophy/strategy into your everyday life using Evernote. Daniel is probably the de facto guru on organising your life and the raft of software and apps that can help you achieve this and I doubt if even David Allen has such a comprehensive overview of task management and to do services than Daniel!

Springpad: Smarter Notebooks. Smarter Sharing. A Smarter Way to Get Things Done! is just the sort of guide someone likes me needs. Daniel takes each step of the way, puts it into a sort of ?Springpad for Total Cretins? format and walks you through everything from setting up your account to collecting and collating data. What makes Daniel?s tutorials so easy to understand is that he provides real life examples so you get a real feel for how this service works in real life rather than as an intellectual route march.

springpadrecipesFor example I love cooking so I set up a Food and Drink notebook (even I could manage that unaided!) and started search for some recipes. Using the Spring It clipper I can quick save the recipe to my Food and Drink notebook. Better still, Springpad recognises my recipes for what they are and allows me to save the ingredients into a shopping list which I can print off and take to the supermarket/corner shop/deli. The beta version I saw did not allow me to save it to my Springpad Android app but no doubt this will be implemented before it is released into the wild so I can sync desktop and smartphone and carry the recipes and shopping list/s around with me on my smartphone.

Springpad Collaboration

One of the key factors about cloud side services is collaboration and sharing and the new Springpad has this in spades. Daniel drives this home in another practical guide on how he planned his ?second honeymoon? to Costa Rica. Using Springpad Daniel and his wife Brodie shared a common notebook to remove the risk of duplication which would have happened if they had used a conventional paper and pen system (One question Daniel, what the heck are Keens?).

Springpad allows you to keep notebooks private, shared with trusted individuals or open to all and sundry on the net. Obviously I would not want to share a financial planning notebook but by making my food and drink folder completely open I can share my collected recipes with others and they can find them by using recipe titles and tags. Daniel also reveals another aspect of Springpad in that notes can exist in multiple notebooks and any changes to one note in one specific notebook, say tags, are automatically updated in all other notebooks. This is one area you don?t want to make a mistake in and Daniel takes you by the hand and guides you safely through, avoiding potentially embarrassing pitfalls!

Screenshots Galore

Because one picture is worth a thousand words Daniel includes a stack of screenshots that further clarifies how the new look Springpad works.

Now, no book by Daniel would not be a book by Daniel without that key TLA (three letter acronym) GTD. Yup, Daniel walks you through how you can utilise Springpad as a Getting Things Done Task Manager and organiser. Now I obviously have a personal and business life that is less complicated than a Buddhist monk on retreat in the Himalayas so I do not need anything as sophisticated at GTD but if you need it Daniel explains how.

Springpad: Smarter Notebooks. Smarter Sharing. A Smarter Way to Get Things Done! at just over 80pages isn?t a large book and you can romp your way through the seven chapters as a stand alone read. However I would recommend that you use it as a live tutorial as you start with Springpad and work your way through both the book and the whole set up procedure and discover the way that the service works. At just $5 it is a worthwhile investment and you can buy it here (affiliate link)

How Do You Get Over Killing a Man?

There are often physical symptoms of stress in the immediate aftermath, such as headaches, nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, and sexual dysfunction. (Zimmerman?s former lawyers say he has lost significant weight.) Flashbacks, panic attacks, insomnia, and nightmares are also common. With proper counseling, the patient should be able to overcome the more crippling psychological effects within a few weeks. In a very small number of cases, like that of wrestler Scott Hall, the trauma lasts for several months or years. Patients who suffer from long-term problems may have had pre-existing anxiety or mood disorders.

HBT:?Not first time Ozzie says he admires Castro

All politics is local. If it wasn?t, these comments Ozzie Guillen made in 2008 to Rick Telander in a Men?s Journal interview would have been pounced on then. But since Guillen was not representing Miami back then, Telander notes, it went virtually unnoticed:

I asked him this: ?Who?s the toughest man you know???

His response, which took me by surprise: ?Fidel Castro.??

Why?

?He?s a bull?- dictator and everybody?s against him, and he still survives, has power. Still has a country behind him,?? Ozzie replied. ?Everywhere he goes, they roll out the red carpet. I don?t admire his philosophy; I admire?him.??

It?s the same thing he said to Time. Maybe a bit more of a ?don?t agree with his policies? disclaimer, but the same sentiment. And if he made it in Miami, boy howdy, would that have been trouble.

Google, an underdog in Asia, lays plans for Taiwan data center

Taiwan gets Internet traffic easily from the United States. I sits at the ends of undersea cables that extend directly from North America before branching off to other parts of Asia.

Google dominates Internet search engines by such a wide margin in the United States that it?s a verb as well as the corporate name of its Silicon Valley-based creator.

But in China, Google vies with the local, government-approved search engine Baidu ? which means 100 degrees ? and lags South Korea?s local brand Naver. It competes head on against fellow American company Yahoo for searches in Taiwan, splitting traffic roughly 50-50. Yahoo has also held a historic grip on Japan.

So this week, the 14-year-old Google announced that by the end of next year, it would open a data center in Taiwan to improve search speeds and reliability around the region.

Google has already started building data centers in Hong Kong and Singapore. But the larger one in Taiwan comes with government incentives and will boast a specific geographic advantage. That is, Taiwan gets Net traffic easily from the United States, home to Google and the source of numerous Internet search results, as it sits at the ends of undersea cables that extend directly here from North America before branching off to other parts of Asia.

Google will spend a combined $700 million on the three centers, which generally house computers and storage systems that help speed connections and keep them secure.

?More new Internet users are coming online everyday here in Asia than anywhere else in the world,? Google?s Asia Pacific President Daniel Alegre said at a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday at the coastal facility in Taiwan. ?That is why we are building data centers in Asia ??to ensure that our users here have the fastest, most reliable access possible to all of our services, so they can continue putting them to work.?

Google?s Taiwan data center will speed up searches particularly in China, which is just 160 kilometers (100 miles) away but has sought to censor Web searches. Baidu now controls about 75 percent of the searches in China.

?That?s a key, to serve China,? says Marvin Ma, software and services analyst with the market research firm IDC in Taipei. ?China will notice a clear improvement. And this way Google can avoid the censorship problem.?

In 2010, Google shut down its locally based Chinese search engine after a dispute with the communist government over censorship and cyber-attacks, a row that prompted harsh words from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Google won?t give market shares for Asia or estimate the overall number of users in the region. In South Korea, Naver still handles about two-thirds of the Internet searches, analysts estimate. But two years ago, Google and Yahoo signed a search-engine technology deal that has muffled the rivalry in Japan.

Google is also catching up in Taiwan as the ever popular Yahoo retrenches, with reports of layoffs in the pipeline, says Jamie Lin, founding partner with Taipei-based tech investor appWorks Ventures. ?If they don?t make any mistakes, Google is going to be the dominant player in a couple of years,? he says.

Why Social Media Marketing Is A Bust For Most Companies ...

social media successSocial media is playing an increasingly vital role in business marketing. Unfortunately, many small and medium-sized businesses (and a few large corporations) are not getting nearly as much out of their social media marketing efforts as they should be. In short, social media is proving to be a bust.

Broadly speaking, many companies are failing to convert on social media because of they are not using it to build brand advocacy, drive web traffic, and generate leads.

WEAK BRAND ADVOCACY

Loyalty and trust play a big part in social media success. Businesses should use social media tobuild brand advocates. ?Social media marketing gives companies exponential reach, empowering brands to leverage their content and messaging more efficiently than other marketing channels.

The Internet rewards reach. The more social media followers you have, the more your content spreads, and the more impact you have on results in search engines, but many of them might be able to share content or take an action online that could refer a customer.?

Social Media Examiner?s recent survey of social media marketers found 85% indicating that their social media efforts have generated more exposure for their businesses.?

Many companies are under-utilizing the potential reach of their social media. They should be promoting their social media channels as aggressively as possible. They can do so by optimizing each page to speak their company?s target audience, sharing valuable content their audience finds useful, adding social share buttons on their website, blog, and all offline marketing pieces, emailing existing customers to encourage them to interact with their social media, and interacting with fans and followers.

FAILURE TO DRIVE WEB TRAFFIC

Social media is the?new promotion. Companies that do not integrate their website and social media are blowing a huge opportunity to?drive web traffic. Increasing web traffic was the second major benefit of social media, according to social media marketers polled in SM Examiner?s study.

Social media channels can be used to bring relevant visitors to your website ? visitors who will convert into customers. In fact, that same study noted that 74% of marketers interviewed found a substantial increase in website traffic with as little as 6 hours per week invested in social media marketing. ?

Prospects who have enjoyed what you have to offer on social media can be encouraged to share their experiences with friends via Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest etc.? This will increase web traffic and bring more relevant visitors to your website. In this way, social media acts as a referral service for your business.

Businesses should also integrate their social media marketing efforts with their website marketing and existing?search engine optimization?(SEO) strategies. Integrate your website content campaigns with your social media by offering web content on social media and using the same SEO keyword list to optimize its performance across all channels. Doing this will help ensure your SEO, website content, blogging, and social media efforts are all working in concert.

POOR LEAD GENERATION

The best source of a website lead is a recently-satisfied convert from one of your social media channels. Looking at data from 2011, inbound marketing experts Hubspot did a study of 3,000+ B2B businesses to understand how their companies were succeeding with social media. The data revealed that 63% of B2B businesses were not generating leads from social media. While these companies were generating traffic from social media channels, they were not converting that traffic into leads for their businesses.?

The main culprit was a lack of?calls-to-action?(CTAs) and?landing pages. In other words, companies were not providing prospects a clear path to deeper engagement. This can be easily remedied by placing CTAs on every piece of content you publish on social channels. These CTAs should be linked to landing pages with forms to collect new leads. Each offer should have its own unique CTA and landing page that is promoting a specific offer such as an ebook, free consultation, demo, webinar, etc.

When it comes to marketing, social media is about lead generation. Building communities online and educating leads is important, but if you don?t present lead conversion opportunities, you will never generate the revenue needed to fund your social media marketing efforts.?

Many companies still in the early stages of implementing social media don?t have a clear understanding of how to take advantage of its many benefits. Many have set up their Facebook Timeline or LinkedIn Company Page, and done little else.

If this is true for your company, you are not using social media to effectively promote your brand, drive web traffic, and generate leads online. By following this simple advice, you can quickly remedy the problem and start getting more out of your social media efforts.

Are you incorporating social media into your marketing efforts? If so, how?
